KIN

Tree Medicine

A MONTHLY space of EARTH CONNECTION .
Weaving a reciprocal relationship with our human and beyond human kin.

As we enter December, we begin our descent into Winter, the portals of the North, and the season of the Earth. This is a special time of holy days, the Winter Solstice, gathering with loved ones, releasing into the fertile darkness, and finding solace in the warmth of hearth and home. We are invited to bring our energy down into our roots and surrender into the restoration of the Earth. During this season, I feel the voice and hearts of the trees calling out so clearly, having much to mirror, share, and gift to us. Evergreens may be invited into homes to adorn and admire and gather around their energy, tree-wood is being burned in the fire for warmth, and the smell of the trees waft through the air around us. Tree Kin hold ancient and special energy, carrying deep wisdom and a nurturing + warm embrace.

I look forward to gathering with you this month! See you in class <3

CALLING IN YOUR TREE

In our first class, we will simply connect and gather to ground in together! I will give a tree talk and share invitations for communing with a tree out in nature. Then, we will get off the call and ideally you will go out in nature to a tree of your choice and begin your practice.

DRUM JOURNEY

    • Set up in a comfortable space where you will not be disturbed.

Prepare your space to be as dimly lit as possible. Have your blinds down if it is daytime, etc.

Set up on the floor with cushions, support, and whatever you need to feel comfortable to sit and lay down on the floor.

Prepare an altar if you feel called to, with objects that will support your journey - if any. Maybe it is ancestral items you have, totems of protection, your plant allies in a bowl.

Have a candle lit with you as well, if you are able to.

Come as you are - in comfortable clothing.

Prepare yourself for ceremony in whatever way feels good to you. Maybe it's anointing your body with oils, clearing your body with sacred smoke, laying on the Earth outside.

If you are able - I invite you to shower/bathe before ceremony to wash off the day/night. & sacred smoke cleanse your space.

BOOKS + INSPIRATION

“In the amazing book “The Hidden Life of Trees,” scientists found that “the most astonishing thing about trees is how social they are. The trees in a forest care for each other, sometimes even going so far as to nourish the stump of a felled tree for centuries after it was cut down by feeding it sugars and other nutrients, and so keeping it alive.” I often think of ourselves as trees. We must grow in our own direction, but we need each other. We need connections to keep growing so we can give back better to those who need it.”

“When you go out into the woods and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. Some of them are bent, some of them are straight, some are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree. The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying ‘you’re too this, or i’m too this’. That judging mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.” — Ram Dass
